The Cherry Hospital Museum records the history of Cherry Hospital, opened in 1880 as a psychiatric institution for African Americans in North Carolina, the only such institution in the state. Photographs, log books and antique medical and farming equipment are on display at the museum, where until 1970 patients farmed its 3,500 acres. The museum is located just west of downtown Goldsboro on the hospital's campus in the Special Services building.
